Changes in Soil Organic Carbon and Its Labile Fractions after Land Conversion from Paddy Fields to Woodlands or Corn Fields

چکیده

Land use change could significantly affect soil organic carbon (SOC) and other chemical properties. However, the responses of labile C fractions at different depths to land-use are not still clear. The aim this study was investigate effect paddy field conversion on woodlands or corn fields total (TOC) its including particulate (POC), microbial biomass (MBC), potassium permanganate-oxidizable (KMnO4–C) along a 0–100 cm profile. Our results indicate that TOC concentrations increased by 3.88 g kg−1 3.47 in 0–5 layer 5.33 4.68 5–20 during 13 years after from fields, respectively. In 20–40 layer, had highest concentration (12.3 kg−1), which 5.13 3.5 higher than increase probably due absence disturbance greater root residue input into woodland soil. pig manure addition contributed concentrations. addition, proportion KMnO4–C 0–40 ranging 39.9–56.6% for 24.6–32.9% fields. POC content soils lower (5–40 cm). there were no differences MBC contents whole profile between most important factor affecting CMI values through Overall, converting layer. Future studies should focus response deeper pool change.

Effects of Land Use Changes from Paddy Fields on Soil Bacterial Communities in a Hilly and Mountainous Area

Soil bacterial community structures in terraced rice fields and abandoned lands in a hilly and mountainous area were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene sequences. The DGGE band patterns of each soil were similar. Based on pyrosequencing data, the richness and diversity of bacterial species were slightly higher in paddy fields than in other soils. A beta-diversity analysis clearly indicated that the b...

Response of soil labile organic carbon fractions to forest conversions in subtropical China

In order to determine the impact of forest conversions on labile organic carbon fractions, soils at depths of 0 10, 10 30 and 30 50 cm were collected from three types of forest: secondary monsoon evergreen broadleaved forest (BF), mixed pine and broadleaved forest (MF) and Masson pine forest (PF) in subtropical China. The light fraction organic carbon (LFOC), particulate organic carbon (POC) an...

New records of heterocystous Cyanophyta from paddy fields of Iran

Four paddy fields in Guilan province in the north of Iran seasonally were sampled from April 2008 to January 2009. Twenty-two morphospecies belonging to three families of the heterocystous blue-green algae were identified. Fourteen species and one variety of these taxa are new record for Iran. Among the families Nostocaceae with six genera and 16 species showed the highest species richness.

Temporal trends in arthropod abundances after the transition to organic farming in paddy fields

Organic farming aims to reduce the effect on the ecosystem and enhance biodiversity in agricultural areas, but the long-term effectiveness of its application is unclear. Assessments have rarely included various taxonomic groups with different ecological and economic roles. In paddy fields with different numbers of years elapsed since the transition from conventional to organic farming, we inves...

Changes in labile soil organic matter fractions following land use change from monocropping to poplar-based agroforestry systems in a semiarid region of Northeast China.

Labile fractions of soil organic matter (SOM) respond rapidly to land management practices and can be used as a sensitive indicator of changes in SOM. However, there is little information about the effect of agroforestry practices on labile SOM fractions in semiarid regions of China. In order to test the effects of land use change from monocropping to agroforestry systems on labile SOM fraction...
